Baby apparently shot by father during standoff at Forsyth Co. home dies

A woman inside was able to escape and call police.

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. -- An 11-month-old child apparently shot by her father during a standoff at a Forsyth County home has passed away, authorities said.

The situation unfolded Monday night at a home on Carleen Court in south Forsyth County. A woman called 911 from a neighbor's home and said that her husband had threatened her and their young daughter with a gun.

While officials said the man was initially cooperative and communicating with deputies,Forsyth County Deputy First Class Doug Rainwater said the man later "quit talking."

After three hours of negotiations with the man, officials heard the baby crying and made their way inside the house. That's where they found the man dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The child was found with severe injuries from a gunshot wound and was transported to a hospital.

On Thursday, authorities confirmed that the child had passed away from her injuries.

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office identified the father as 34-year-old Salman Ashraf.

The child's mother is with family, authorities said.
