Gwinnett woman shoots, kills suspected home intruder

ATLANTA -- A woman shot a suspected home intruder early Friday, police said.

According to Gwinnett County Police, the incident happened just before 4 a.m. at a home in the 3500 block of Spring Drive.

"The female retrieved her handgun, went to investigate the sounds when she observed several males inside of her home," he said.

Washington said the woman opened fire and at least two suspects fired back at her. She was not hit but at least one suspect, later identified as 28-year-old Antonio Leeks of Atlanta, was. He died on the scene despite attempts by officers to perform CPR.

Police said they believe robbery may be a possible motive in the home invasion.

The other two suspects were able to flee the scene in a vehicle and are still on the loose.

They are described as two black males between 20 and 30 years old and approximately 6 feet tall.

Meanwhile the man and woman were taken to police headquarters for questioning and, at this point, no charges are expected against the homeowner.
