GWINNET COUNTY, GA. - A 78-year-old man was sentenced to life in prison for molesting a 9-year-old member of his family.
Now, 14 years old, the minor victim told her therapist on Feb. 17, 2015, that Joe Henry Davis sexually abused her on nine separate occasions beginning five years ago and not ending until she was 12 years old.
A Gwinnett County jury convicted Davis of aggravated child molestation, aggravated sexual battery, incest and child molestation, after only 14 minutes of deliberation.
Davis confessed to the Gwinnett County Police and admitted to nearly all of the acts disclosed by the victim.
Davis, now 78, was approximately 73 years old at the time that he began abusing the victim.
Superior Court Judge George F. Hutchinson, III, sentenced Davis to life, with the first 30 years to be served in confinement without the possibility of parole—followed by an additional 20 years on probation, making him 108 when he’s released.
“That’s a death sentence for me,” said Davis after his sentencing.
“Yes, sir. I expect that it is,” said Hutchinson.
