Officers OK, man dead after shooting in Jasper County

UPDATE (5:35 p.m.): The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate an officer-involved shooting in middle Georgia.

According to Jasper County Sheriff Donnie Pope, a woman called police around 11:21 a.m. Monday morning and stated that man approached her as she was walking down Grandview Road and pulled a gun out. The woman says the man then pointed the gun at her and it clicked several times. 

Sheriff Pope says multiple deputies responded to the 600 block of Grandview road less than 10 minutes later. He says when the deputies arrived they heard gunshots coming from the area. Sheriff Pope says when deputies made contact with the man, a verbal argument took place and that's when the man started firing shots at deputies.

According to Sheriff Pope, the deputies fired back at the man ultimately killing him.

JASPER COUNTY, Ga. -- The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate an officer-involved shooting in middle Georgia.

The GBI confirmed on Monday afternoon that a man is dead but officers are OK in Jasper County. The county's sheriff's office called in the state's investigative unit - which is standard procedure in may counties when an officer fires or takes fire from a suspect.
