One Houston County teacher uses real life experiences to help her students learn and also works to make sure that learning is fun.

Junior journalist Jordan Thomas takes us to high school for this week's My Teacher is Tops report.

For 13 years, Terri Scott has used the things she's learned in life to teach her students.

"Everyday you're with people you teach, so to come into an environment like the one we have at Veterans High School, I'm able to take some of my life experiences, deal with young people that I love to deal with," says Scott.

She was nominated by freshman Will Cooper. She taught with his mom at another school.

"I came here from a different school and I really didn't know anybody but Mrs. Scott, she was like a teacher I could feel like I could go to her for anything and she was like a second mom at school," says Will.

Mrs. Scott teaches him literature, but she also instructs a journalism class.

Tori Orel says, "She doesn't ever bring anybody down. Whether she's having a bad day or not she makes everybody else happy."

Senior Tu Pham says Mrs. Scott makes learning fun and supports her students.

"I like how she doesn't just care about our grades, but she also cares about our personal life," says Pham. "I can always come to her when I need help."

Will says his teacher's passion for learning has helped him appreciate reading.

"It's her enthusiasm that helps us and she makes me strive for excellence," he says.
