One Central Georgia teacher brings her students back down to Earth. In this week's My Teacher is Tops report, Junior Journalist Jordan Thomas introduces you to a Science teacher at Wheeler County Elementary School.

Mrs. Tammy Mitchell is a thirty year teaching veteran in Wheeler County, and she's won the hearts of her fourth grade Science and Social Studies students.

"She's about the nicest teacher in fourth grade," says Brandon Phillips.  He says he also likes the games she teaches on Study Island, a teaching tool on the smart board.

Zeb Floyd, another student in Mitchell's class says,"She's a really awesome teacher, and there's probably no one like her in the world."

Mrs. Mitchell was overwhelmed when she found out her students think she's tops. " I just come each day to be with my students and teach them and care for them, but I never expected anything like this would ever happen," says Mitchell.

Her students say she makes learning fun by thinking outside of the textbook.

"She's the most funniest teacher I've ever known like in the galaxy." says Keoyna Mincey.

Mincey says her teachers deserves the honor because she's retiring at the end of the school year.

"She keeps on encouraging us to do our best not just in science and social studies but in our other classes," says Mincey.

"I want all my kids to be successful and remember when I'm retired just keep on until you get to twelfth grade and keep going. When you believe in yourself anything is possible," says Mitchell.

Fourth grader, Desmond Bell says he doesn't want his teacher to retire. "I want to see her here every time. When I get to fifth grade I want to tell her that she was a great teacher and she taught me very well."
