For the second year in a row, fewer Houston County schools made the state's Adequate Yearly Progress list than the year before.

Two years ago, all 35 schools in the district made AYP.

Last year, three schools slipped off the list: the Career and Technology Center and Northside and Perry high schools.

This year, the state says, it was four, with Westside Elementary joining the list.

That still gives Houston 33 out of 37 schools making Adequate Yearly Progress, and that's ahead of the state average, 72 percent.

Statewide, the Georgia Department of Education says fewer schools are making AYP as federal standards rise. Last year, statewide, 77 percent of Georgia schools made the AYP list.
