ATLANTA (AP) -- The state Board of Education will hold a hearing on whether members of the Atlanta school board should be removed from office.
The hearing is set for Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. The state board voted in July to delay deciding the fate of the Atlanta board members until an accrediting agency could rule whether the district would keep its accreditation.
Atlanta had been on probation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools since January. The district was taken off that status last week.
A state law that took effect July 1 allows the governor to remove members of local school boards if their districts are in danger of losing accreditation.
The law calls for the state board to hold a hearing and make recommendations to the governor.
