MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) -- The superintendent of Marietta City Schools has been named Georgia's 2012 Superintendent of the Year.

Emily Lembeck received the honor Friday at the awards luncheon of the annual Georgia School Boards Association Conference, beating out more than 20 superintendents from around the state who were also nominated.

The Marietta Daily Journal reports Lembeck will go to the National Conference on Education, which will be held in Houston in February, to represent Georgia in the national superintendent of the year program.

Lembeck has led Marietta City Schools since 2005.
