Bibb County school superintendent Romain Dallemand still likes the idea of year-round school but not in 2012.

Dallemand recently said he would include the concept in his strategic plan for the Bibb district, due out early next year.
But in a news release Tuesday morning, Dallemand said a year-round schedule is off the table for the next school year.

He wrote, "There is a great deal of planning that needs to be done to make year-round school happen, and we do not want to rush the process. There are many different models for year-round school that could be used here in Bibb County, and we need to determine which best meets the needs of our students. Once this has been determined, it will take time to fully develop the plan, train our employees and parents, and communicate with the community so that people can plan appropriately."

Dallemand says year-round schools would end the students' learning lag that happens each summer.

In his weekly online column, Dallemand also said Bibb schools are finishing up a district-wide technology audit that will provide "a complete picture of where our issues exist, how we can make improvements, and how much it will cost."

He added, "One of the first things we must correct is not our hardware, it is our technology infrastructure. The hardware will not make a difference if we don't have the network, bandwidth, and training to support its use."
