Bibb County's first charter school will not open its doors next year.
The Macon Academy of Excellence charter school was set to open in July 2012 after the school board granted the school's charter in March.
But at a Thursday meeting, board members decided to terminate that charter.
In a memo to the school board, the district's Department of Teaching and Learning recommended the termination because the school doesn't have an education management company and a curriculum provider.
The school had contracted with two management companies, but according to the Department of Teaching and Learning, the companies reconsidered for unknown reasons.
The memo also states the school wouldn't have anything unusual to offer once the strategic plan is implemented next year.
That was the same reason the school board gave when it turned down the last two charter school petitions in September.
Dr. Gail Morris Fowler, chairperson for the Macon Academy of Excellence, said the decision was disappointing, but they knew it was coming.
She said they plan to apply for another charter.
"We will file for another petition," she said. "Our work does not stop today. Our work will continue."
