ALPHARETTA, Ga. (AP) -- The Alpharetta City Council has rejected a Fulton County charter school's request to expand to a building in a business park.
CBS Atlanta reports that the decision came after a heated public meeting that lasted until the early morning hours Tuesday.
Amana Academy sought to purchase a building on Windward Parkway and went to the council to ask that the city allow the building to be used for a school. Neighbors in the Windward area have opposed the request.
James Drinkard, assistant city administrator, said the vote to deny the request was unanimous.
The school has more than 500 students enrolled in kindergarten through eighth grade.
