ATLANTA (AP) -- Gov. Nathan Deal has announced 11 new winners of money from the state's Race to the Top federal grant.
Deal launched the $19 million Innovation Fund competition after Georgia won $400 million last year from the U.S. Department of Education. The money is aimed at schools and programs that focus on STEM subjects -- or science, mathematics, engineering and technology.
The winners announced Wednesday include a partnership between Murray County school district and Georgia Northwestern Technical College to open a STEM academy, a program at the University of Georgia that helps train early career principals at low-performing schools and an alliance of educational institutions that want to create a STEM charter school in Cobb County.
This is the second round of winners from the Innovation Fund.
