ALBANY, Ga. (AP) -- U.S. Rep. Sanford Bishop has announced plans to seek an 11th term in Congress representing the second Congressional district in southwest Georgia.
The Albany Democrat, who is up for re-election next year,
indicated that he will see another term during an interview with
the Albany Herald.
Bishop, who serves on three subcommittees of the House
Appropriations Committee, narrowly avoided being unseated during his last attempt at re-election when Coolidge Republican Mike Keown provided the strongest challenge yet to defeating the long-time Democrat.
No one has indicated publicly that they will challenge Bishop
for his seat.
If re-elected in 2012, Bishop would represent most of Macon.
The Georgia General Assembly this summer approved a new congressional map for the state that gives Bishop a big chunk of Bibb County.
The new Second Congressional District would also include Crawford, Peach, Taylor, Macon and Dooly counties.
The U.S. Justice Department has not yet approved the new districts.
