ATLANTA (WXIA) -- The parents of 5-year-old Ja'Leah Rose Felix are beside themselves after the sudden loss of their daughter in a hit and run accident.
"She was my everything; she was my baby. That's all I got," JaLeah's mom Rose St. Louis said Thursday. "Somebody took her from me. That ain't right."
"You killed me too," she said.
Ja'Leah lived with her mother in Colorado, but she was spending the summer with her dad in College Park. They were visiting Ja'Leah's aunt in Southwest Atlanta on Tuesday when Ja'Leah was hit crossing Campbellton Road on the way to Sandtown Park. Her shoe had fallen off, and she run down when she stopped to pick it up.
"She wasn't a dog or a squirrel or some stray animal," her father Lawrence Felix II said Thursday. "She was a person with a personality. She loved life."
Her parents said she like to dress up like a princess. "She was only 5; she was still a baby," her mother said. "My baby didn't even know how to ride a bike yet."
"Whoever is responsible, we just ask that you come forward," her father said.
The person who hit her may have been driving a dark car or SUV. Family members said it appeared to have been a four-door extended cab Ford pickup truck, but that was not confirmed by police.
"They just want some answers," the family's attorney Robert Bozemand said. "They understand that what happened can't be reversed, as much as they want it to be, but what can happen is there can be some accountability for what happened."
