AUSTELL, Ga. (AP) -- A major thoroughfare in metro Atlanta is closed after a stretch of the road was washed away after a car smashed into a fire hydrant.
Cobb County police said a car collided with the hydrant Monday night on Riverside Parkway, just west of Atlanta.
Water began gushing from the hydrant, but police say the car was positioned in such a way that crews were unable to turn off the water until a wrecker was able to remove the car.
Police say the water washed away the stretch of road. Crews were working to make repairs early Tuesday.
