SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. (AP) -- The city council in the Atlanta suburb of Sandy Springs has approved plans by the Church of Scientology to expand its building.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that council members on Tuesday night approved the plans with a 5-1 vote, ending the church's three-year battle to add 12,000 square feet to its building near Roswell Road and Glenridge Drive.
The expansion proposal was rejected in 2009, and the church had filed a lawsuit.
Opponents had expressed concerns about traffic congestion and parking, but church officials say they addressed those issues.
