SNELLVILLE, Ga. (AP) -- Emergency responders pulled several people from the Yellow River.
Gwinnett County fire rescue crews were called around 3 p.m. Thursday to the Yellow River at the Annistown Road Bridge. Rescuers found five people in distress. Three were holding onto the bridge support column and two others further down the river.
The victims reportedly tried to get off the river before the bridge because of rapid water conditions beyond the bridge. Rescuers pulled one adult and four children from the river. Some of the victims suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene. No rescuer injuries were reported.
None of the people rescued were found wearing life vests.
Gwinnett officials urge people to wear a life vest near moving water, be aware of water conditions, and follow water safety rules.
