SUMMERVILLE, Ga. (AP) -- Officials in northwest Georgia say 120 firefighters and emergency personnel are battling a large blaze at a plastic recycling complex in Chattooga County.
The Rome News-Tribune reports thick black smoke from the fire Saturday has prompted authorities to evacuate anyone within a quarter of a mile of the recycling center in Summerville.
Chattooga County commissioner Jason Winters says two firefighters suffered heat-related problems but were treated at the scene.
Winters says firefighters were making progress toward containing the fire after battling the flames for at least four hours Saturday. He says air quality levels in the evacuation zone also appear to be improving.
Firefighters from nearby Catoosa, Walker, Polk, Bartow, Floyd and Cherokee Counties were called in to help fighting the fire.
