ATLANTA (AP) - The Supreme Court of Georgia has upheld the malice murder conviction and life prison sentence of a Georgia man accused of killing his daughter in a so-called "honor killing."
Prosecutors say Pakistani native Chaudry Rashid said he killed his daughter after she disgraced the family.
Rashid was accused of strangling 25-year-old Sandeela Kanwal during the summer of 2008 in Clayton County because she planned to divorce her husband from an arranged marriage.
A jury convicted Rashid in May 2011 on murder and assault charges.
Rashid appealed the decision to the state Supreme Court, saying jurors shouldn't have been allowed to see a video of him describing the killing to relatives. The justices disagreed in a unanimous decision, ruling that he had no expectation of privacy during the conversation at a police station.
