Amped Up Champions: Week 1

Central Georgians committed to being Amped Up

Each Wednesday we share fitness tips and nutritional recipes in hopes of helping Central Georgians take on their journey to a healthier life.

At the end of the month, we share the special story of one person who has made the commitment despite the obstacles that may have  stood in their way. Throughout the month of May, Marvin James is honoring a special group-- Amped Up Champions... those who were nominated by their friends, loved ones and some who even shared their own success.

Amped Up Champions Week 1:

  • Jerome Owens says his lifestyle once included eating all of the wrong things. Owens says following the 9 years after college he gained almost 50lbs. Owens said after a first attempt and fail with his trainer in December 2013, he started over in February of 2014 and never looked back! Since then he's participated in 5ks, 10ks, 15ks, half marathons and even his first full marathon. Jerome lost more than 90lbs. 

  • Nick Kinchen says his journey took off in April of 2015. So far he's shed 110 pounds and he's not done working it out! Nick says he's gone from 345 to 235 with the help of clean diet and cardio training.

  • Dee Baron says she started working out back in 2008 during a boot camp, but fell off track once school was added to her plate. Baron says it was her brother that gave her the push she needed--telling her she had to make time for exercise again. In 2014, she did just that after a surgery that kept her down for six weeks. Dee attributes her success to accountability partners and a love of workout selfies.
