Bright Star West, a daycare center on Price Road in Macon, plans to shut its doors this week.
Parents received a letter from the center's director Tuesday morning, telling them about the closing.
According to the letter, their bank has decided to close Bright Star West. Director Cristina Ausmus refused to comment about why the bank is closing the center. Some parents say finding another day care on short notice will be a struggle.
"It's disappointing, said Macon parent Tracy Jackson. "It's causing a great deal of hardship, not just for me, but for some of the other ladies inside who are wondering how they are going to get their kids to school."
Parents like Jamie Young from Lizella say finding a new datcare is crucial. She says, "When you're a single mom, you have to work to pay the bills. If you don't have anywhere to take your kids, you can't go to work. So, therefore, you can't pay the bills. It's kind of a lose-lose situation."
The center's last complaint investigation was filed in May 2011 in regards to child ratio and group sizes, according to state records online. Two other complaints were filed earlier that year citing the same reason.
The Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning encourages parents to use their program All Georgia Kids. Parents can log on to the website for a list of day care centers in their area. They can also call 877-255-5437 and a consultant will give them tips on how to find the perfect care for their child.
