Taylor County's sheriff says he's investigating possible animal cruelty by neglect to cows at a dairy farm.
Sheriff Jeff Watson says deputies and Georgia Department of Agriculture veterinarians executed a search warrant Thursday at the Jubilee Farm on Fountain Road.
Some of the 200-plus cows appear underfed, Watson said.
He said the owners, Virgil and Sandra Duncan were not on the farm today, but are returning from out of town.
Department of Agriculture spokesman Arty Schronce said state agents have been working with the farm's owners since October after getting a complaint about malnourished cows.
He said the animals seemed to improve during that time, then their condition recently took another turn for the worse. That's why the case was turned over to Watson's department for further investigation, he said.
"You don't let your animals get run down, you either sell them or take care of the situation somehow," Schronce said.
Watson said he plans to meet Friday with prosecutors from the Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit to decide if the Duncans should be prosecuted for possible animal cruelty.
