Former United States congressman Jim Marshall will soon take over a new role.

The United States Institute of Peace has named him as the agency's fourth president.  He'll officially assume that post in September.

Marshall is a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of the Army Ranger Hall of Fame.

He's a former Mercer Law professor and represented the Macon area in congress for eight years.

Monday, he explained to 13WMAZ's Leah Johnson what his new role means.
