A county elected official says he is coming out against the consolidation of Macon-Bibb County.
Bert Bivins, who has served three terms as a Bibb County Commissioner, told WMAZ he will announce his opposition to consolidation in a news conference on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the county courthouse.
He says he is chiefly concerned that the budget cuts mandated by the consolidation bill will cost current city and county employees their jobs.
The bill also says that new tax districts would be created to ensure that city debts are paid off by city residents, which Bivins says is unfair.
Bivins said he will provide an information sheet at the presser and take questions afterwards.
