Central Georgia shoppers hit the stores Friday morning as the state's first tax-free holiday in three years got under way.

This Friday and Saturday, Georgia will offer tax free back-to-school shopping for clothes, computers, school supplies and more.

"It can be a huge savings depending on how much money you're spending. If you are looking at items that are under $1,000, saving a 7% sales tax can roughly give you  $70 on every $1000," says Brandon Jones, a manager at Target in Warner Robins.

From crayons to backpacks, the smaller ticket items that are less than $20 will be tax exempt.

"Shoes, cardigan , jackets things of that nature everything that you would need for your child for school, as long as that item is under $100, it will be tax exempt," says Jones.

Beginning at 12:01am Friday and concluding at midnight Saturday, you may purchase designated items without paying sales tax.

The following items qualify for tax-exempt status:

 - Clothing and footwear with a sales price of $100 or less per item.

 - A single purchase of electronics, costing $1,000 or less, of personal computers and related accessories.

 - General school supplies to be used in the classroom or in classroom-related activities with a cost of $20 or less per item.

The following items are NOT included in the sales tax holiday:

 - Clothing accessories, jewelry, handbags, umbrellas, eyewear, watches, watchbands, cellular devices, furniture, computer-related accessories designed for recreational use, items used in a trade or business or for resale, or rentals.

Purchases made in theme parks, entertainment complexes, public lodging establishments, restaurants, or airports do not qualify.
