"Believing in Miracles" was the theme of the day at the Convocation of Bibb County Schools for the 2012-2013 School Year at the Centerplex in Macon.
Superindendent Romain Dallemand spoke of the "Macon Miracle," encouraging student and teacher to create success in Bibb schools.
Dallemand touted the fact that more than 100 students switched registration from private to public schools, and that this year, Bibb schools' enrollment would top 25,000 students.
Dallemand also praised students who attended a summer leadership program and highlighted Bibb's new intiative to teach Mandarin Chinese to elementary-school students.
Dallemand said this would leave students well-prepared for a "multi-ethnic, global economy."
The event featured Lauren Eckman, the Georgia 2013 Teacher of the Year.
Eckman works at the state-run Georgia Academy for the Blind in Macon. She said all things are possible for student learning, even those with disabilities.
She said that with creative methods, such as using iPads to help students with Braille, teachers can reach students who might otherwise fall through the cracks.
Dallemand said examples like hers make him "believe in miracles," and wished teachers and students a successful school year in Bibb County.
