A Bonaire 17-year-old was killed when he drove into the path of a tractor-trailer.

The Houston County Sheriff's Office identified the victim as Kyle Hillock, 17 years old. He was a junior at Veterans High School.

Sheriff Cullen Talton told 13WMAZ's Lorra Lynch Jones that the truck driver had a green light and the right-of-way when Hillock drove into the intersection. The sheriff said "it was just really unfortunate."

A sheriff's news release says Hillock was driving a Ford Mustang north on Thompson Mill Road around 6:30 p.m. Monday when it was struck in the intersection with Highway 96. The tractor-trailer was heading eastbound on the highway, according to the release.

Houston County Coroner Danny Galpin pronounced Hillock dead at the scene.

The truck driver was identified as Saint Jean Ismael, 33, of Naples, Fla. The truck is owned by Heartland Express of Atlanta.

Investigators say they are still interviewing witnesses and reconstructing the accident.

Friends at school describe Hillock as a nice guy who would always lighten the mood by being funny. He was also remembered for being artistically talented and good at animation.

According to an obituary, visitation for Kyle Hillock will be held Saturday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home, 417 S. Houston Lake Rd. The funeral will be held at the funeral home on Sunday at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Parkway Memorial Gardens.

The family suggests memorial donations in lieu of flowers to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta for Scottish Rite Children's Hospital, 1687 Tullie Circle, Atlanta, Ga. 30329.
