Georgia College has a new president. Steve Dorman officially took the post September 1.
Dorman comes to Milledgeville form Gainesville, Florida, where he spent 6 years as dean of the college of Health and Human Performance at the University of Florida.
He earned his Bachelor's degree in Biology at Lee College in Cleveland, TN, a masters in Public Health and a doctorate in Philosophy at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
That's also where he met his wife, whom he's been married to for 32 years. He has 3 children, the youngest of whom is 19.
He's known as an expert in public health and health education. He says Georgia College is a good fit for him and his wife.
"This is a great place to be," said Dorman. "The faculty, the students, the staff are wonderful. We have outstanding faculty, some of the best in the nation. Great staff, and the students are some of the best in Georgia, so we're excited about that as well. Of course Milledgeville is a very wonderful place. The community is very welcoming."
A transition team is in place to help Dorman ease into the position. He says the first order of business is to hear employees and students concerns.
