A Sandersville man is in jail charged with burning down his own home.

According to Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner Ralph Hudgens, 55-year-old Larry Smith is charged with 1st degree arson for intentionally setting his home on fire.

The 60-year-old wood frame house, on Jones Road in Sandersville, burned last Friday, Nov. 9.  Investigators determined Smith used gasoline to start the fire, according to Hudgens.

A state Arson Unit assisted the Washington County Sheriff's Office, Sandersville Fire Department and Sandersville Police Department with the investigation.
