Felicia Batts learned that she is Bibb County's Teacher of Year for 2018.
Batts and 3,000 other school district employees met at the Macon Coliseum Tuesday for their kickoff for the school year. Batts has taught for nine years. Now, she teaches special education at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School. She says teaching is the toughest job she will ever love.
“I can honestly say it's the kids that make this job worthwhile. There are challenges but at the end of the day, it's the kids that make you want to come back and do it again,” says Batts.
Batts says she wants to reach children young to avoid places like prison because that is where she started her teaching career. She says she was overwhelmed and grateful for being honored.
With the school year coming up, the district welcomes about 300 new teachers to Bibb County to continue the theme of “Victory in Progress Continues” according to Superintendent Dr. Curtis L. Jones Jr.
