A man allegedly tried to run over a deputy with his car and the deputy fired back. That's according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff's Office. It happened just before 9:30 Wednesday night, near the Sandy Springs apartment complex on Bloomfield Drive.
A deputy says a man approached him at Fine Fair Grocery on Napier Avenue and told him his SUV had been stolen from the Marathon Gas station. A car matching the man's description was spotted on Log Cabin Drive at Eisenhower Parkway.
Deputy David Whigham began following the car, he says that’s when it turned left near the complex. When Whigham went to stop the car, he says the driver went to the end of the complex, then the passenger got out and ran.
The driver then reportedly revved the engine and suddenly turned towards Whigham as he was walking up the driver's side.
The report says Whigham fired several shots as he thought the vehicle was going to hit him. The vehicle sped away out of the apartment complex, last seen making a right onto Bloomfield Drive.
No one was hurt, but investigators are still looking for the car and driver.
The car is described as a burgundy 1998 Mercedes ML-320 SUV, with Georgia tag number QB-142-37. If you have any information, you can call The Bibb County Sheriff's Office at 478-751-7500.
