Big haul: 40,000 illegal pills, drugs, guns found in storage facility

Officers say a man kept all the drugs in the facility.

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Columbia Police have arrested a man after a large supply of drugs, illegal pills, and high-powered firearms were found inside a storage facility in Columbia.

Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook says back in May, they got a tip that drugs were being held inside the Whaley Street location. Officers got a search warrant, and say they found drugs with a street value of $200,000 inside the place:

  • 100 grams of hashish
  • 10,421 green pills which police say tested positive for AB-Fubinaca (also known as marijuana pills)
  • 29,139 white pills which police say tested positive for Alprazolam (a.k.a. Xanax).

Officers believe the pills were made at a private, clandestine facility, but they're not sure where that place may be yet.  Police say they also seized $10,000 in cash, an AR-15 rifle, two Tec-9 sub machine guns, and handguns.

The investigaton led officers to 23-year-old Matthew Ryan Garnett. He's been charged with possession with the intent to distribute hashish, possession with intent to distribute a Schedule I controlled substance (AB-Fubinaca, a synthetic cannabinoid), possession with intent to distribute a Schedule IV controlled substance (Alprazolam).
