Bleckley Co. detention officer charged with sexual assault of inmate

A Bleckley County detention officer was fired and arrested after he allegedly touched a female inmate.

A news release from the Bleckley County Sheriff’s Office says Sheriff Kris Coody was notified on November 17 of allegations that a detention officer – identified as 62-year-old David Strong -- inappropriately touched a female inmate.

Strong was then placed on administrative leave and the sheriff’s office notified the GBI and requested an investigation into the allegations.

On December 1, Sheriff Coody spoke with GBI agents. He was then terminated from his position.

On December 4, Strong turned himself in and was charged with violation of oath of office by a public official, and sexual assault by persons with supervisory authority.

Strong was then processed and released on bond.

Coody says no one, including his employees, are excluded from the law and he will continue to make sure his office operates in a manner to keep public trust.
