Blondes and brunettes battle it out to fund Alzheimer's research

Two teams took to the field Saturday in a battle, but this wasn't just any sporting event -- it was to help battle Alzheimer's disease.

The Alzheimer’s Association hosted its 3rd Annual Blondes vs. Brunette game hoping to find a cure and fund research.

The group hopes to raise $200,000, and so far they have met half of the goal.

Amy Johnston, the senior director of communications for the Georgia chapter says that it took about six months to put this event together, but it’ll be worth it because the number hits a lot close to home.

“60 percent of people that are caring for people with Alzheimer’s disease are women. Every 66 seconds, someone is diagnosed with Alzheimer's,” said Johnston. “In the next 10 years, Georgia will see one of the highest increases in the country -- about a 46 percent increase in cases in the next ten years.”

If you weren't able to make the game, you can still make a difference. If you would like to donate, just go here
