Byron police officer hit during raid

Peach County Sheriff Terry Deese says the joint drug and SWAT teams from Peach County Sheriff's Office and Byron Police Department went to an apartment for a raid on Green Street Tuesday morning.

He says when they arrived they noticed a man, Darrand Williams, outside the apartment in the car. Deputies ordered him out of the car and he refused. Williams put the car in reverse and hit a Byron officer in the leg.

Deese says the officer was not injured. He says Williams put the car in drive and deputies surrounded him.  Deputies arrested Williams for aggravated assault and possession of meth.

The man inside the apartment officer raided was also arrested Tuesday morning. Quavis Respress is charged with possession of cocaine and marijuana both with intent to distribute.
