Central Ga. non-profit provides shower caddies to families of cancer patients

Strength Ahead donates shower caddies to Emory Hospital

A local non-profit is taking one less worry off the minds of families of cancer patients, by providing them with essentials for their hospital stays.

Strength Ahead is an organization that was created in honor of Joshua Spradlin.

He was an Airman at Robins Air Force Base who lost his battle with Leukemia two years ago.

His mother, Mary, and his wife, Ashley, as well as other family and friends, made it their mission to provide support and resources to cancer patients and their families.

This past weekend, the members of Strength Ahead made a special delivery to the Hematology floors at Emory University Hospital.

They gave families 100 shower caddies filled with toiletries and supplies.

As Ashley Spradlin explained, they wanted to help support the patient’s family while they are in the hospital supporting their loved one.

Many times, basic necessities, like toothbrushes, shampoo, and face wash, are the last things on their minds.

The big donation was made possible with their Easter Boston Butt Sale back in April.

The sale of 120 Boston Butts went to filling the caddies.

Spradlin says the response was amazing, and they were greeted with hugs and tears.

She admits it was difficult to be back in the place where her husband received treatment, but she is glad that she could help make a difference for other families.

“I wanted to document my smile and my happiness as I left the hospital,” Spradlin says, “To remember exactly why I am a part of this organization, that Josh always dreamed of...to put a smile on someone else's face, and make their journey a little easier."
