Clerk killed in Macon robbery was shot during robbery at same store last year

A clerk who was shot and killed during a robbery Monday night at a Macon convenience store is the same person who was injured during a robbery at the store last year.

Two customers found Brijeshkumar Patel, 42, laying on the floor behind the counter at L&C Convenience Store just after 10 p.m. He was bleeding and suffering from several gunshot wounds, according to a sheriff's office news release.

The cash register was open and the drawer was empty, the news release states.

The customers called 911 and Patel was taken to the Medical Center Navicent Health where he was pronounced dead.

Patel was shot in the leg during a robbery at the Hillcrest Boulevard store last year, according to Bibb County Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. Randy Gonzales.

That robbery occurred July 27, 2016 just after 1 a.m. when investigators say two males, one with a gun, approached Patel outside of the store.

The men and Patel got into an altercation and Patel was shot in the right leg, the Bibb County Sheriff's Office reported.

After shooting Patel, the men entered the store and took an an undisclosed amount of money and Patel was treated and released at the Medical Center Navicent Health.

No arrests have been made in shootings.

Anyone with information on this shooting death can call Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
