Cordele community holds vigil, honors victims from double homicide

Dozens gather to remember Cordele shooting victims

Thursday night, Cordele residents gathered on a blocked-off street to honor the lives of two men shot and killed Wednesday night.

Police have not released the victims' names for fear that it will interfere with their investigation.

Thursday night, Cordele police chief Rob Rodriguez begged the crowd to notify law enforcement if they know anything about what happened.

"We don't want somebody else's child to get killed or hurt because somebody was trying to retaliate, because that don't solve anything" says Rodriguez.

Local Rev. Isaac Owens encouraged people in attendance to do the same.

"Law enforcement cannot do it by themselves," says Owens.

Crisp County Sheriff Billy Hancock also addressed the crowd. His deputies are assisting in the investigation.

"You can't tell me that somebody that busted in somebody's house and killed two individuals knows anything at all about love," says Hancock.

But the people who attended the vigil did feel love as they prayed, lit candles, and sang in remembrance of the two fallen community members.
