Kids Yule Love collects gifts for Christmas

The Crawford County Kids Yule Love organization is collecting gifts to hand out to underprivileged children in the area.

Gabrielle Dawkins caught up with the Katie Jones, the Director of Crawford County Kids Yule Love, to see how the gifts are stacking up this year.

"It's amazing how many children don't have, and it's amazing how many we honestly don't know of," says Jones.

Jones started collecting gifts back in October.

"I want to keep the magic of Christmas alive for as many children as I can," says Jones.

For Jones, this generosity runs much deeper than a giving heart.

"I've been one of the children who didn't receive toys in the past," says Jones. "I remember when I was 7. My Christmas gift that year was a used doll where the head had been shaved all of the head."

It was that same disappointment that fueled the need to make a child smile during what most would say is the most wonderful time of the year, with the help of the community, of course.

Like the Ice Bucket Challenge, people in Roberta challenged others in the community to donate to children.

"Gifts that can be for girls or boys -- Oh, there's one girl that likes crafts," says Jones.

This challenge helped produced about 30 percent of their toys.

"It's been a tremendous Impact," says Jones.

This year, Kids Yule Love is helping about 30 families and around 70 kids in the county, but Jones doesn't want people to think of her as  Crawford County's Santa Claus.

"I don't want to look like Mrs. Claus just yet. Give me like 10 or 15 years," says Jones.

The organization plans on handing out gifts on starting on December 17, 2017.
