Fire rips through storage building in west Macon

An early morning fire Tuesday ripped its way through a storage building in west Macon.

The fire happened on Thomaston Road on the border of Monroe County.

Battalion Chief Michael Wilson said the call came in just after 4:30 a.m.

No one was inside the out building when the fire happened. He said one man lives on the property but was not in the building.

Wilson said the building is a total loss.

The scene was cleared around 7:30 a.m.

Both lanes are now open on Thomaston Road.

The owner of the building told 13WMAZ's Claire Davis he was relieved it wasn't his home that caught on fire.
