Woman dies in Macon house fire

A woman died Monday after a house fire in Macon.

It happened on Lilly Avenue in Unionville.

Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said she was 68-years-old Ruby Davis. He said her brother, 70-year-old Robert Dudley tried to save her, but he was overcome by the smoke.

He is currently at the Medical Center Navicient Health in stable condition, although he suffered severe smoke inhalation.

Dudley says his sister recently had medical problems she was trying to overcome.

There is no word yet on what caused the fire.

Jones said for those who do not have a smoke detector in their home, call him at 478-621-6314. He said he will install it for free.
