Domestic disturbance leads to shooting at Macon apartment complex

A man is in the hospital after being shot in the back, according to a Bibb Sheriff’s Office news release.

It says deputies responded to Waverly Pointe Apartments on Forest Hill Road just after 1:30 a.m. Tuesday. They found Charles Pettigrew with a gunshot wound to the back.

It was reported to them that Pettigrew showed up unannounced to the apartment of a woman he knew and saw there was another man visiting her, identified as Corteles Howard.

The release says Pettigrew began yelling at the woman before hitting her in the face. Howard then pulled a gun and told Pettigrew to leave, but he kept hitting and choking the woman.

During the argument, Howard shot Pettigrew in the back.

Pettigrew was taken to the Medical Center, Navicent Health and is currently in stable condition.

The incident is under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time. Anyone with information can call Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
