Drive-by shooting damages Baldwin home, car

A family of six is safe after bullets struck their home early Tuesday morning.

Yolanda Canty, her fiance Deangelo Hartry, and their four children were home just after midnight when bullets struck the house on the 1500 block of Irwinton Road.

Michael Lumpkin with the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office says deputies recovered three shell casings near the front of the home.

He says the front window of the victim's Hyundai Sonata was shot out, there was a bullet hole found in a metal chair in front of the house, and a window air conditioning unit had been struck by a bullet as well.

Lumpkin says they have reason to believe this shooting is connected with the string of gang-related drive-by shootings.

But Canty says she doesn't believe they were the intended targets, and neither do investigators.

"They just said they believe our house was caught in the crossfire of something going on or maybe someone was at the wrong place at the wrong time and they were walking and then came back and saw them, and started shooting at them," Canty said. "But you've got to be careful because kids are in this home. You can't be reckless like that."

Lumpkin says at this time they haven't made any arrests and are actively investigating this shooting.
