Early morning fire destroys home near downtown Macon

A home near downtown Macon is now gutted after a fire early Thursday morning.

Macon-Bibb firefighters say it started around 1 a.m. on Jeff Davis Street near Little Richard Penniman Boulevard.

It appears to be a total loss.

Firefighters believe the fire started in the front part of the house.

It's not clear if anyone was living in the home, but no injuries were reported.

Investigators plan to return later today to work on determining the cause.
