The Red Cross isn’t the only organization hosting evacuees across Central Georgia, many churches are as well.
Encounter Church on Gray Highway opened its doors to those fleeing the storm.
Their sanctuary and Sunday school classrooms are filled with air mattresses.
They are providing evacuees with food, showers, and other needs.
Yudiet Perez found the shelter after eighteen hours on the road from Miami. She’s thankful to have found the church after getting lost looking for refuge.
“We don’t know nothing here in this city but I trust in Jesus and he was the one that brought me to this place,” Perez said. “When I got here everybody received me with a smile on their faces and you are welcome. Everything is perfect here.”
If you would like to donate supplies like air mattresses, snacks, or sheets, they can be dropped off anytime at the church.
