Federal agent thwarts attempted armed robbery of Macon hotel

MACON - Bibb County deputies are investigating a commercial armed robbery at a West Macon hotel. It happened at the Best Western Inn and Suites on Chambers Road Sunday morning. 

According to Lieutenant Randy Gonzalez with the Bibb Co. Sheriff's Office, the robbery happened just before 8:30 a.m. Sunday. 

According to a news release, a man walked into the motel wearing a mask and carrying a handgun. 

The clerk at the front desk saw the man, screamed, and ran to the back of the motel. The masked man went behind the counter, attempting to open the cash register. No money was stolen.

The release states a guest at the hotel heard the clerk scream. 

The guest, also identified by deputies as a Federal Agent with the U.S. military, confronted the man at the front counter.

The robber ran out of the front door.

No one was injured. 

The man is described as being around 5’10’’, weighing about 220 pounds with a beard. 

Witnesses told deputies the man was wearing blue Velcro tennis shoes, dark colored jeans, an orange or light red button up shirt and a dark colored hoodie.
