Family escapes East Macon house fire within minutes

A family lost everything today, after a house fire in East Macon on Apple Blossom Way. Macon Bibb Fire crews say, the family escaped the flames within minutes.

A family lost everything Friday morning after a house fire in East Macon on Apple Blossom Way. The family escaped the flames within minutes.

“My brother called me and said his house burned down, and I said I'm on my way,” said Sabrina Wright . “That's all I could do.”

And when she saw the flames, Wright says she couldn't believe that her brother and his family made it out alive.

“They got out with all they had on their backs,” said Wright. “Some of them didn't get their shoes on but thank God the kids everyone got out.”

Macon Bibb Fire Battalion Chief Timothy Johnson says the call came in at 5:30a.m. Friday morning. It took more than 30 minutes to put out the flames, he said.

“It was through the roof when the crews got on scene,” said Johnson. “Both the houses beside it received some damage due to the radiant heat. We're just glad their lives were saved."

Wright says even though her family lost everything, they still have faith. “We are a praying family. We believe that God is in control of everything,” said Wright. Because what they lost can be built again. “Life is more precious than anything,” said Wright. “God will return everything they lost.”

Battalion Chief Johnson says, investigators are not expecting foul play. But the cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation. The Red Cross is assisting the family.
