Two pedestrians fatally hit by Barnesville cruiser

BARNESVILLE, Ga. -- The Georgia State Patrol says two people died when they were hit by a Barnesville police cruiser early Friday.

According to a news release, it happened around 1 a.m. on the southbound lane of GA Highway 7 in Lamar County.

They say 25-year-old Justin Sullivan, and 21-year-old Quentin Byrd were hit by the cruiser. Investigators believe the two men were walking in the travel lane, the release says.

Both are from Barnesville.

The police officer driving the cruiser, 44-year-old Terry Belvin was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital.

The Forsyth post of the Georgia State Patrol is handling the accident investigation.
