Forsyth woman arrested after car, foot chase

Gwendolyn Powell, 44, appeared in Bibb County Court on Tuesday. She's accused of taking deputies on a chase Tuesday.

A Monroe County woman is in the Bibb County jail after driving away from an attempted traffic stop.

According to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was dispatched to the parking lot of Mabel White Baptist Church on Bass Road around 10:15 a.m. Monday for a suspicious person call.

When the deputy arrived and tried speaking to the woman – identified as 44-year-old Gwendolyn Powell -- in her car, she rolled up her window and drove off.

The deputy tried to stop Powell as she was driving on Bass Road towards I-75.

The release says Powell ignored the deputy’s lights and sirens and continued into Monroe County.

At that time, a GSP Corporal came to assist the Bibb deputy.

The corporal tried a PIT maneuver on Powell’s car, but she regained control and continued driving north before she stopped at exit 184 and began running away from her car.

The corporal tased the woman and then she was placed into custody.

Powell was taken to the hospital and released before she was taken to the Bibb County jail and charged with aggressive driving, fleeing and eluding law enforcement, and obstruction of a law enforcement officer.
